The BTES Symposium 2006, August 2006:
The first official gathering of the Building Technology Educators' Society took place at the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. We were honored to have Ed Allen, author of "Fundamentals of Building Construction" as one of the Keynote Speakers.

The Keynote Address given by Topaz Medallion winner Ed Allen at the BTES Symposium in Maryland in 2006 has been printed and is available to download here.
In addition to the Plenary Sessions, separate parallel presentations were given by many attendees along either a "construction" or "structures" theme.
Joe Burns Plenary Session
A "teaching gift exchange" was formalized, with attendees bringing teaching projects, outlines and software to exchange with their fellow participants.
This gathering was key in the decision to formalize BTES as an Incorporated entity.

BTES 2006 Proceedings (30 MB) This version of the proceedings differs from the one distributed on CD at the event. All papers here are in one large .PDF file. If you save it to disk, It will open in full screen mode with bookmarks to each paper that you can keep open or close as you choose. The table of contents is also hyperlinked to each individual paper. If viewed online, use the page down key four times to go to the Table of Contents, and from there to the respective papers. At the top title header of the very first page of each paper, there is a hyperlink back to the table of contents. 2006 BTES Proceedings Have Been Officially Published
With the formal incorporation of the BTES, the proceedings for the 2006 BTES, held at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, have been released as our first official publication (ISBN 978-0-615-24911-7)! We've gone through an independent online printer (Lulu) and have produced an attractively bound book that includes back cover photographs from the symposium. It will be available from online retailers such as Amazon.com for a cover price of $35, but if you buy it through the BTES directly, additional proceeds beyond printing and shipping cost go back to the organization. And if you're a dues-paying member of the BTES, you can have it for $25...such a deal! (Member purchases will be handled by rebate check...there is unfortunately no easy way to get the printer to have an alternate price.
